He tenido la oportunidad de leer parcialmente este libro reci�n publicado, _El espiritismo en Puerto Rico, 1860-1907_ por Gerardo Alberto Hern�ndez Aponte. Creo que este va a ser un texto imprescindible para el estudio del espiritismo en Puerto Rico, ya que se concentra en un estudio integral de esa doctrina, sus or�genes en Francia, sus distintas vertientes internacionales, su llegada a Puerto Rico, sus diversas asociaciones con distintos sectores de la sociedad puertorrique�a: sus tensiones con el catolicismo, su dimensi�n sincr�tica, sus asociaciones con libre pensadores, sus contribuciones sociales, entre otros. La bibliograf�a y las notas al calce muestran su amplio uso de fuentes primarias que fundamentan esta investigaci�n. Recomiendo la compra de esta valios�sima contribuci�n.

Like the topic it covers, this book is a treasure

If you have any passing interest in the tiki culture of the 50's and 60's this book is for you. Containing hundreds of rare photographs, matchbook covers, swizzle sticks, and more, this book stands unparalled in its field.
About the only thing missing is a chapter on the Exotica music which closely tied to this culture - the tunes of the era get only a very passing reference.
That said, YOU WILL NOT REGRET purchasing this book.

This is a well written and illustrated book. Many of these special interest sort of books do not have a quality narritive to accompany the illustrations, this is an exception. Well written and interesting, the book tells the story of the birth of tiki cool in great photos and illustrations. Many photos of building no longer standing. The book itself has a padded cover, and would make an excellent gift or personal treasure.

This is the start of things to come

This is an excellent picture book filled with great stories about the good old days. It will bring back memories of a tiki age gone. Why dont we have these kinds of places anymore? Maybe that will change soon but in the mean time this is a great book for all who love this period in our American History or for the island dreamer.
